Children and young people are supported in their early years, at home and pre-school, by the Specialist Inclusion Teams. This is if they have hearing, visual and multi-sensory impairment or Autistic Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Support for school-age children is provided through school and continues until the young person transfers to adult services.
Our specialist teachers provide:
- Support to children and young people to help them to meet their educational needs. Also, to support their social and emotional development.
- Parents/carers and schools with training, advice and support at various school and play settings
Children can also get more help from a support team of:
- Communication and play therapist.
- Deaf instructors.
- Educational interpreters.
- Habilitation specialists.
- Multi-sensory support assistants.
- Specialist outreach workers.
- Specialist resource technicians.
- Speech and language therapists.
- Touch typing tutors.
If a child or young person is not able to attend full-time education, support is given by the Medical Needs. This is the ‘Known Children Missing out on Education team’.
