‘Advocacy’ is all about people controlling their own lives. We help people to make their own decisions and achieve their own goals. Our work includes supporting individuals or groups to:
- access information or services
- be more in control of decisions about their own lives
- look at choices and options
- know their rights
- speak up about issues that matter to them
When people struggle to communicate their views and wishes, we are guided by behavioural cues and body language. We can also speak to those who care about the person, to build a picture of what they like and dislike. We then try to ensure these preferences are at the forefront of any decisions about that person.
We support people to become healthy, happy, active, involved and independent.
We work with people living in Yorkshire, North Lincolnshire, North East Lincolnshire, Tameside and East Lancashire.
We are independent from health & social care providers. This means we are not part of the NHS, social services, residential homes or hospitals. We can support you to say what your wishes are, even when others may not agree. Many people tell us they really value this unique partnership between advocate and client.
Our services are free to people that use them.
